Colour Study - the Origin of Illusions

mineral stones, synthetic pigments, flour, glass
2013, dimensions variable

The artist mixed synthetic pigments with flour in order to imitate the colouration of different mineral stones. In the exhibition space, the pigments are spread around the same stones that were used as models for the colour mixtures.

In the past, all the pigments used in paintings were made from natural materials such as mineral stones, soil and plants. Paintings often imitated nature, unintentionally also the original sources of the pigments used in them. In the installation, synthetic pigments imitate the mineral stones colourations, paraphrasing the tradition of paintings to create illusions.
